What can we do? In some weeks there will be the french public voting about a „oui“ or a „non“ to the European constitution. If french public votes „non“ this could be a catastrophy. Years of work would be destroyed, France would be isolated within the EU. But when you follow the polls at the moment about 52% of the French would give a clear „non“. So, what could we do? Can we help? Is there a possibillity to help our french friends with their decision? Maybe the 52% „non“ are a clear statement against chirac, but they have to get the bigger view: „oui“ is important for our all future! Please link it…
Microsoft and Symbian: Ceasefire
As I´ve just read in the FTD this morning, Symbian has licensed a new module to Microsoft, with which one now is able to simply use symbian Smartphones (market share appr. 50%) for syncing with Microsofts´s Exchange, the world´s most used E-Mail system. A small victory for symbian, or clever tactics from microsoft?
Vision of 2014
I found this vision of how the internet will be in 2014 on ourmedia.org – and I´m not quite sure, if I´m allowed to share it – but I simple do 😉
Nokia adopts Microsoft
Ehm, no: I don´t think Nokia would actually buy Microsoft, but somehow I have the feeling their product- and company philosophy are merging. Why? Read on: I got my 6630 some weeks ago – a nice, quite powerful mobile. But suddenly it went off – mmh, battery isn´t that powerful (mine last appr. 3 days) but guess what? After recharging it didn´t boot anymore. Actually it tried to boot, but came in a kind of „loop“ – showing the Nokia logo, going off again, showing the Nokia logo turning off again. I but mine at T-mobile germany, so I went into the next shop and asked the friendly salesman if he might help me. He looked quite busy, took my phone and said: „No, It´s a software mistake, and I have to send it back to Nokia. It might take some time until you´ll get a new one.“ Mh, time is something I haven´t got too much of, so I went home looking for options. Some minutes ago I was succesful: Making a hardware reset solved the problem, and it´s so easy: just get off the sim and memory card, press the green button, * and „3“ at once, and turn your mobile back on. All settings are gone, but it works again fine. this somehow remembered me of the good old strg+alt+del times…history is repeating 😉
Never change a winning team
I´ve used jot.com as my personal wiki for quite a long time, and working on it with firefox on my mac never seemed to be a problem – until two weeks ago I updated to the new version, and suddenly I couldnt´t use the WYSIWYG features of jot anymore – strange thing. Now, when I use my dirty old OSX-mozilla browser, jot still works perfect. never change a winning team….
John doesn´t like NTL
A must read 😉Download ntl_complaint_letter1.pdf
So, unfortunately I wasn´t lively there, when Nico, Heiko, Björn, Michael and Phillip got a „meeting of a third kind“, I had to leave the train earlier – this would have been FUN! Nico had updated his Bahncard 25 to a Bahncard 50 which means, that he get´s 50% off of every ticket he buys. One has to know, that when you buy your travel-ticket online, one has to print it out, and for verification issues, one has to show the printed ticket along with your bahncard. Now, as said, Nico had updated his bahncard 25 to bc 50 AFTER buying his online ticket, so his verification number (printed on the bahncard and on the ticket) was different. On his first travel this fact didn´t´seem to be a problem – the conductor just called an office, and everything was ok. On his way back home, cards changed: the conductorress didn´t accept his ticket, and called the police..CALLED THE POLICE because of damn 17 EURO ticket…Nico had to leave the train earlier. I´m looking forward on how this story will go on. The conductorres didn´t actually know, that she got thw wrong persons: Nico Björn and Heiko are one of germanies most influent bloggers – I bet, this will gonna become a huge PR gau…
Joi on a crusade
Well, Joi seems to be on a crusade: it looks like Rambo went into the store, getting the finest weapons for his war. Joi, what are you fighting against? Against Data-lost? Fear of No-Connectivity? 😉
Now: enough is enough
As slashdot reports, AOL just released new terms of service: Now they are allowed to use all of the content anyone is posting or generating with one of their products (e.g. AIM) and reproduce them for their own purposes. Mh, I can´t really understand that a company does this, I mean, what for? Internet users are *still* concerned about security reasons, and then they want to play BigBrother? An excerpt from the tos: „In addition, by posting Content on an AIM Product, you grant AOL, its parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, assigns, agents and licensees the irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide right to reproduce, display, perform, distribute, adapt and promote this Content in any medium. You waive any right to privacy. You waive any right to inspect or approve uses of the Content or to be compensated for any such uses.“
I´ve been to a very cool event yesterday evening: tonecentrale in cologne. Only a small v-card under the ringingbell at a small house in the middle of „Ehrenfeld“ hints to this music-evnt. You go through the first house into the cellar, and you find a small room, packed with people and cool djs. The whole event is for free – which I find fantastic, though I hope, that thereßs something like a cultural found of the town, to make this evening last long…View the small video: it´s´cool experimental music
