For some projects we need to test port switching and behaviour of clients behind company firewalls. For that we needed a solution to simulate different firewall settings and log, how traffic goes through, what is blocked, filters etc. For that purpose we found Flying Buttress quite handy: it’s easy to handle and serves some extended functionality.

MacFuse is a cool app for OSX: one can mount drives to your finder via ssh or ftp. the best is the GUI MacFusion. (via kazam.de)

When I was looking for a song on google today I noticed, that on the first two results there was the direct link to the according youtube video and one could watch it directly through a simple AJAX trick on the results page. Very „nice“ 😉 but what about Wikipedia? Couldn’t there be a link system, like the internal link system, which links directly and automatically to a youtube movie like [v:youtube] or such? Is there something like that?

Fiddeling around with ssh-tunnels I want to keep myself reminded, on how to set up a tunnel to a remote server via ssh, forwarding port 80 to my port 4711:

ssh -L 4711:127.0.0.1:80 root@myserver.com

Then open your webbrowser and point it to 127.0.0.1:4711 and voila, you are on the internal webserver.. 😉

whew, as they say in their blog, the fast growing audio-community last.fm was just bought by CBS. They seem to be on a shopping tour, having just announced major agreements with social networking sites and providers: looks as if the fat boys are going into new distribution channels – we are going to see some more announcements like that in the near future I think….

Scanscout claims to have a technology to scan online videos and analyze their content. They will then match the content against their advertisers database and deliver in-movie textlinks. It should be a quite efficient way to place ads in UGC environments where „classical“ advertisers still have concerns to show up…I wonder if the performance of their system could be able to handle a site like youtube – well, they won’t ever get on youtube though google will buy them… 😉
